The JOW Research Story

The JOW Research story begins back in November of 2002, when I was a happy and clueless worker for a corporation, where I did consulting work. Since I was feeling satisfied with my job, I completely ignored anyone and anything that suggested that maybe things could be different, and a lot better. I had worked at different variations of this job for 12 years at the time.

But the Universe had other plans, and I was not meant to continue on a course where I was not really learning anything new. Now in this case the Universe took drastic action, and the job that I loved and had worked for so many years disappeared without warning. I had always felt that I was such an expert at the job that I would be the last person there, and it became truth. I was the last person, and when they let me go there was no one.

Like many others do, I started an independent consultant business to continue doing the work that I loved, and at the same time began the search for my next full time position. Ironically, I had quite a bit of work at first, all from my former employer, who suddenly realized they had no one trained to do that work anymore. It was here that I learned the first parts of running a business, and I started reading books to that effect.

It was a transition time for my wife as well, who at the time worked part time as a Registered Nurse. During the month of December 2002 she decided that she would start building a business with a company that she was already familiar with, that company being Arbonne International. Arbonne is a Direct Sales company that markets Swiss skin care, and other Health and Wellness products. Since my wife had used many of these products for 10 years already, she could be described as a fan. She began in Jan of 2003, and it was at that moment that my life began to change drastically.

The reason for the change was because my wife slyly asked me to come with her to all of the training meetings that she began attending in an effort to grow her business. Not knowing what to expect at first, I found those training meetings to be incredibly inspiring, and full of very successful people. There were many people at these meetings who had grown their businesses to the point that they had resigned their full time jobs.

Well after about the second meeting like this, my wife no longer needed to convince me to come to these events. I continued attending, and taking furious notes. A great advantage of this Network Marketing type of business is that training is usually provided for very low cost and sometimes no cost at all, and it is the same type of training that people in the traditional business world pay thousands of dollars for.

I had a strong foundation in finance which I had gained in the late 1990s reading books like The Richest Man in Babylon, The Wealthy Barber, Wealth Without Risk, Financial Self Defense, Rich on Any Income, Rich Dad Poor Dad, pretty much every other Robert Kiyosaki book in existence, and my personal favorite book of all, what I think of as the financial bible, the book Money: An Owners Manual by Dennis R Deaton.

Adding to that foundation, and a very good memory, was an entirely new list of books and audio programs from several ultra-successful business entrepreneurs. I was introduced to the incredible book As A Man Thinketh during this time period, and I obtained an audio version of that that I have listened to at least 50 times and counting. Other books and Audio programs I devoured during this period included “Thinking Your Way to Success”, Think and Grow Rich, The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity, The New Professionals, The Greatest Networker in the World, How to Win Friends and Influence People, The Next Millionaires by Paul Zane Pilzer, and even How to be a Gentleman.

By the time I got to 2005 I had moved on to The Prayer of Jabez, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Prosperity, The Magic of Thinking Big, and a very interesting little book by Bijan called Effortless Prosperity. Combine all of this with a 15 year study of The Scriptures, and this set the foundation for what was to come next.

And what came next was The Secret, which was released in March of 2006. I credit my involvement in the Network Marketing Industry for my hearing about The Secret so soon after it was released. We purchased the Original Version DVD with Esther Hicks immediately, and started watching it multiple times. It is funny looking back at that time now, because other than Jack Canfield, I had not heard of any of the other 25 presenters in the movie. These are just not the types of people that you meet in the “work for someone else” world.

My interest in the back story of The Secret started immediately. What was the Green Tablet thing that the soldiers were coming to protect? Who was that guy sitting in the board room determining the fate of the secret? What other cool concepts are taught by these teachers and the others that are quoted in the movie? What were those 100 year old books that contained the combined wisdom of the ages?

Well I obtained several of the books that are referred to (some subliminally) in the movie and started reading them, and I have to say that without the background that I have outlined I would not have understood much of what was being said, especially when they start talking about money. It seemed that every new book I found served to transport me to the edge of my current beliefs and peer over to see the additional truths that had been hidden from me before.

I am good at combining things that I have learned from different sources together into one common theme. With the information presented in The Secret, and in the old books it comes from, and the other teachings of some of the secret’s teachers, a desire started to form in me to write a research document that fleshed out all of the Secrets within The Secret, all in one place.

So I started working on the document in October of 2006, and before I had gone too far there was a contract issue with Esther Hicks that caused her to be removed from the movie and be replaced by Marci Shimoff and Lisa Nichols, and The Secret Extended Edition was released. I obtained that DVD quickly as well so that I could discern the differences, of which there are more than one might think. Eventually, it became obvious that I would need two different versions of “The Secrets of The Secret” eBook, and so I started co-development of both versions at once.

I continued doing the research and writing the document through November and December of 2006, and put the finishing touches on in Jan of 2007. When I look at the result now it seems so connected that its hard for me to remember that there were hours and hours of research put into the making of this document. The Internet can bring information to us at the speed of light, but wading though all available information to find the connectors is something of a process.

So thus “The Secrets of The Secret” was born. This website was set up in late January and early February of 2007 to market the document. The multi-level pay scale for appreciation was inspired by the success of the Network Marketing model. Network Marketing, once properly understood, is one of the most powerful business ideas in all of history. While the successful network marketers have known this for years now, the concept is quickly catching the attention of more traditional business people who now say that if they had it to do all over again, they would do it with Network Marketing. Men like Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump are now saying this.

So I say all of this not to toot my own horn, but so that you may see the qualifications that I would have for writing such a document as this. The proof is in the document itself; read it for yourself and see if it isn’t the most thought provoking 26 page document that you have ever read!
